The White Darkness by Geraldine McCaughrean

A dazzling, pitiless story about Antarctica. McCaughrean’s imagination is fierce, tireless and unpredictable’.

The Observer

Sym believes that there is a person in her head, a person who died just under a century ago, a person who is alive to her. His name is Captain Oates, hero of the Antarctic. A friend, admirer and an advisor; Oates could be everything Sym wanted him to be. But is he just an allusion? or he is real? My favourite character is Sym because she faced her fears and although she almost died there, she tried her hardest to keep going.  The age range is 9-12 years old and the publisher is Oxford University Press.
